English Channel, UK - Summer Breeze
My Watermark is Portsmouth Coast on the English Channel in the United Kingdom.
I first met the ocean as a child visiting my grandmother in Portsmouth, England. I remember crossing railroad tracks and climbing over big blocks of natural chalk on the beach. I would spend hours watching the waves crash against the shore, the sheer magnificence and power calming to my spirit. It expressed emotions I couldn't for me. I felt a kindred spirit in its wildness. We traveled on to the Isle of White and I gathered different coloured sands wherever I went. My seashell collection became a source of joy that has never left me. We crossed the ocean on the Queen Mary when I was 4, to move to Canada. Looking down at the almost black water instilled a fear in me, but didn't kill my love for her.
