Lake Huron, ON - Adrianne L
My Watermark is Lake Huron, Ontario.
When I was young at the lake, I felt the hot sun burn on my skin, and started to feel the ache to dive into the cool and refreshing and calm lake water. I splashed out into the lake water, my sister at my side and my boogie board trailing behind me, being pulled by the strap on my wrist. I remember when I would swim in the water, feeling with my feet for the nearest sand bar or any hard surfaces. I made it around a hundred feet out in the water, reached a sandbar and waded around, the water only going up to my waist. My sister and I surfed around in the waves, the sun beating down on our backs.
When I was young at the lake, I sat on the beach blanket in the sand alongside my family. I listened to the lake’s waves crashing into the shore and looked on the water, expecting to see the sky reflected in the blue water. I munched on snacks my family brought down to the beach, occasionally finding sand in my mouth too. I dug my feet into the warm, soft sand, letting the sand find its way between my toes. I looked for interesting rocks and shells that got washed up in the sand by the waves. I raced across the sand, sending nearby seagulls to take flight into the air, frightened by my size. I played football and I skipped rocks on the water and I tossed around a frisbee with my family. I gazed at the horizon of many colours, pink and purple and yellow, and watched the brilliant sun fade into the water, gradually disappearing beneath the horizon.
When I was young at the lake, my family and I rode in the forest, carelessly cruising alongside the green trees on the bike path. My family and I hiked in the woods surrounding the water’s edge, pine trees brushing our skin and clothes and hair. We kept our eyes peeled for the wildlife in the forest like deer and bugs and rabbits.
When I was young at the lake, I had many days of fun and relaxation and adventure. I look forward to the day I get to return to Lake Huron once more. That Great Lake holds many special memories that I will never forget.
