Trent-Severn Waterway, ON - John Magill
My Watermark is the Trent-Severn Waterway.
I had the opportunity to bring my trawler down from Midland, Ontario to Port Credit on Lake Ontario in 1996 using the Trent-Severn Waterway route with its 40 or so locks and wonderful array of welcoming small towns and villages along the shoreline. I feel quite certain that those small towns and villages would not have invested in their waterfront properties unless the rivers and canals that bordered them were clean, fresh and welcoming to boaters of all types. I feel equally certain that our provincial and federal regulatory/supervisory system is responsible for the high quality of those waters and vulnerable shorelines. Maintenance of such successful and pro-active regulatory controls is, in my opinion, essential to the future of this waterway and others like it.
