Grand River - Shannon Pennington
I have lived in the Grand River watershed since coming to university here 35 years ago. We rely on the Grand River for drinking water (along with groundwater), sewage treatment and stormwater removal, as well as for recreation, including canoeing, tubing, kayaking, fishing and hiking, biking, and walking along its shores.
My favourite activity is tubing in Elora. The rapids in Elora Gorge are awesome and fun for kayakers and tubers. The water is clean enough to swim in in these upper reaches of the river and the gorge itself is an awesome natural geologic feature. Tubing is popular and is exciting and a lot of fun. I’ve enjoyed this activity with friends and family many times.
