Grand River, ON - Cassidy C

October finally hit and summer collapsed into fall. My favourite time of year. The feel of that crisp autumn air, the sound of those freshly fallen crunching leaves, that “fall” smell.

I have explored many places here in Ontario. Some I have traveled many kilometres for, and others are right in my backyard. But October 2nd, 2017, was the day I explored Elora Gorge for the first time.

Elora Gorge, just 40 minutes outside my hometown offers breathtaking scenery and unforgettable memories. You can walk trails high above the gorge, looking down to the rapids splashing fiercely, or hike down through the caves and trails to see the water face-to-face. It felt like a scene out of a movie.

It was a last minute decision to travel to Elora Gorge for the day. Usually I tend to stay close to home, but it was time for an adventure. When we arrived at Elora Gorge, we were unsure where to go, what there was, and where to start our adventure. We did what most people would do… Follow the group of people.

As we started on the trail, the picturesque scene was unlike anything I ever imagined. The ripe colours surrounding the ground and edges of the water was absolutely stunning. The rustic feel of the trail had me feeling right at home. We walked the trail for 30 minutes, mostly because we had to stop and take pictures, like this one.

It wasn’t until a little while later that we headed down through the cave trails and down to the water. That running water sound gets me every time. It’s calming crashes puts my mind at ease as we continued to explore and walk the waterline.

Elora Gorge is a hidden treasure. I highly recommend the trip to explore this great province of Ontario and discover exactly what it has to offer.
