Moira Lake, ON - Arden C.

I’ve gone to a co-ed camp every year since I was 9 years old for one week with my friend James. The camp is called Camp Quin-Mo-Lac. Every summer, there are 7 weeks in total starting in June and ending in late August. I’ve gone to weeks 5, 3, and 7 twice. It takes about 3 hours to get to the camp from my house. The closest town to the camp is a very small town named Tweed. I always pass through it on my way to camp and back.

Week seven is always the best because it's the last week of camp all year. This camp holds so many memories in my life over the past 5 years. I've made many friends at this camp and hold many camp memories with them. But, one of my most favourite parts of the camp is the lake. Every day when we wake up we take part in a camp challenge called the polar bear challenge. Every morning, you must jump in the lake at 7:00 in the morning when the lake is at its coldest. This is one of the most fun and memorable parts of the camp experience. In the morning, every camper, counselor, and staff member is there, lined up on the dock waiting to jump in. Everyone has fun jumping off of the dock and having a nice, cold, refreshing swim right in the morning.

Another use of the lake at camp is canoeing and kayaking. Everyone in your cabin group is in one canoe singing camp songs, and playing games with each other. The counselors make up games, songs and water activities to do while canoeing. But, my favourite part of the canoeing experience is jumping into the water off the canoe. Everyone takes turns jumping off the cameo at the back and having a little swim in the lake. Everyone is having fun, singing songs, and playing games in the water.

But my favourite canoeing activity is canoeing to the island in the middle of the lake for our one day trip to the island, where we play games, explore, and spend the night out in the wilderness. Everyone has to collaborate to paddle in a rhythm all the way to the island in the middle of the lake. The water is always calm and really nice to look at, but in the morning at sunrise, is when it looks the nicest. This lake is a special place to me and holds lots of precious memories that me and my friends share.

My absolute favourite part of the lake is when we get to free swim and play on the water mat, or the water trampoline. This is the most fun water activity that we do at camp. It's everyone's favourite. We get to swim and play with our friends in the nice cool refreshing water. Sometimes we even get to swim with other cabin groups in the lake, which is really fun especially if anyone you
know is in a different cabin group. Another thing you get to do in free swimming is jumping off the dock. You can jump as many times as you want, and it is super fun.

As I’ve said many times, this lake holds lots of precious memories for lots of people. Every camper who has gone to Quin-Mo-Lac since it was founded in 1950, every counselor since the founding of the camp, all of the past owners of the camp, and lots of others who visit the camp. But this water is especially precious to the campers and owners of past years. Quin-Mo-Lac is their home for multiple summers, and the lake just makes the camp experience so much better, and provides so many activities for everyone to take part in. Without the lake at camp, it wouldn't be the same, and it would be much less exciting and entertaining.

If this lake were to be used for anything else, I'm sure tons of people would be devastated. I could've chosen any body of water for my watermark. But I chose Moira Lake, as would many others, and that is how much this lake means to me.
