Jack Lake, ON - Jordyn K

A couple times each summer, my family and I go up to our grandparents cottage. It’s close to a small town called Apsley.

One of my favourite memories at the cottage takes place in the summer of 2020. In the evenings after dinner my dad and I usually like to go for a jet ski ride to see the sunset, but this jet ski ride ended up being a little different.

We hopped on the jet ski and it started out fine. There was no sunset yet so we decided to go somewhere new for a change, so we went towards some waters we had never been in. Then, I saw an island so we decided to go check it out. As we got closer, more and more seagulls showed up. Next thing you know, about 20 seagulls started racing towards us. I pulled on the gas and drove away as fast as I could. Seagulls were swerving and squawking. They almost caught up to us, but we got away.

It was all worth it because after that whole fiasco, the view was breathtaking. The pinks, oranges, yellows, and purples from the sky all blended together. The reflection of the sky in the lake and the forests in the background really made it look just like a painting.

Once we got back to the cottage and told the rest of our family about what happened we now call that island Seagull Rock.
