Lake Huron, ON - Kira B

My Watermark is Lake Huron, Ontario.

When I was young at the lake, I searched for pretty rocks at the edge of the water. Red, green and blue stones shimmered like gems in the hot summer sun.

Sometimes I walked in the water to cool down my feet from the burning pebbles. Bright blue water mixed with clouds of sand as I waded through the shallow lake shore.

When I was young at the lake, my friends and I would race each other to the water.

We would run on the sandy beach, careful to not step on shards from glass bottles. I reluctantly entered the lake, scared of its coldness and the creatures that could be lurking in the shady water.

Eventually, I swam in the cool lake, looking around me at the docked motor boats and the small sailboats in the distance.

When I was young at the lake, I watched the sun sinking into the horizon. The clouds turned pink and yellow, orange and red lines filled the sky.

Then the sky would plunge into darkness, and millions of stars would accompany the silver moon that was the only light in the sky.

My family and friends would make a campfire, and I would cook marshmallows in the dancing flames.

Then we had to go back to our cabin, and leave the peaceful lake behind.
