As kids my brothers and I would ride our bikes down to the river, play in the pools of cold water and sometimes, with friends, float down the river in tubes and have an adult picked us up at an arranged point of the river. Our whole summer fun was tied to that river. Fishing, hiking, horseback riding , etc.
