Kennebecasis River, NB - Pamela Lawson

My Watermark is Kennebecasis River, New Brunswick.

The Kennebecasis River, part of the Saint John New Brunswick river system was extremely important to me whilst growing up in the Renforth and Rothesay area in the sixties and early seventies.

I learned to swim in that lovely river, spending summers doing swimming lessons in the mornings and free swimming in the afternoons, every day possible. In the winter the river when frozen gave me an opportunity to learn to skate and almost crossing that river and listening to it crack underneath us as we hurried home before dark. Ice fishing for smelts was also fun and enjoying frying them up in the pan once home.

This waterway was an important part of me growing up and enjoying it. Everyday going to school on the school bus the road followed the rivers path to our school and in the evenings from our home we watched the sun setting over the ribbon of the river. This is what I will remember.
