Ambleside Beach, BC - Jeannine Johnstone
My Watermark is Ambleside Beach, BC.
I have family living on the West Coast, East Coast and in Scotland. Often it is difficult for us all to get together, but I take comfort in the fact that we all live along coastlines and are connected by water. My sisters and I placed newspaper in little boats with lit candles and watched them float away into the Burrard Inlet. As they drifted away, I imagined them ending up on the shores where my family lives.
Ambleside Park holds positive memories for me because my entire family has come together to enjoy this beautiful beach. We always went there as kids and I can picture the landscape without being there — it is home. The Squamish Nation Welcome Figure stands proudly at Ambleside Park and reminds me that as a Resource and Environmental Management student, I have an obligation to ensure that First Nations peoples have access to clean and safe drinking water.
