Esson Lake, ON - Will Hunter
My Watermark is Esson Lake, Ontario.
I grew up going to cottages in the Kawartha Lakes, and I’ve always really felt very comfortable, relaxed and at peace up there. We used to go to a place at a town called, ‘Wilberforce’ in a lake called Esson Lake, and we used to spend all our time up there. It was pretty cool, we went there up until I was 17.
Fun fact about me is I can swim, but I’m not very good at it, so I don’t like to do it. I used to wakeboard and all that stuff, but you wear a life jacket, so you’re fine. I’m also a good floater.
The water would probably win in a fight, but I’m not scared of it. I’m more afraid of cliff jumping. I dislike that. I think I’m too uncoordinated to jump off a cliff, especially if it's near water and wet.
If you grow up near a lake, it will be a part of who you are. There are a lot of bands from the coast that say, ‘I couldn’t be this person without being next to a body of water or the ocean’ and I definitely believe that. I think Lake Ontario is up there with the oceans because you can’t really see the other side. So mine water bodies would be Kawartha Lakes and Lake Ontario. Water is important.
