I remember biking to Big Lake when I was younger with my family and being amazed by how peaceful it was and how many birds were there. There was a lookout that you could stand on and listen to the birds over the water. It was a beautiful oasis that really made you feel like you were out of the city. Local conservation groups also taught us about the invertebrates and wildlife in the area which allowed me to foster a deeper sense of connection to the ecosystems close to home. The area surrounding Big Lake and Lois Hole Provincial Park is more developed now, but it's always wonderful to go back and visit.
