Mediterranean Sea, Libya - Basim I

What words come to your head when you hear the words beaches? My head screams family. Everyone outside my immediate family lives in Libya. So every time we visit, we always go to the beach at least 3 times a week with my entire family. My mom and aunts would pack picnic food, my dad and uncles would pack the toys and every time we would bring a watermelon. We’d always come in the early morning and we'd get back late at night. It's been 2 years since we've been to Libya. I love that beach because when we flew over the beach. the water glistened brightly. I guess I feel connected to the beach because the beach just reminds me of the family. The only time my family can talk now is through Facetime. Whenever I'm on a beach, I have flashbacks of good times on that beach.

Everything I've said probably sounds biased, But I can say that this place is fun and beautiful. It is better with family over friends though. This beach doesn’t mean family to just me, it probably means that to so many other people. When I went to Libya in the summer of 2018, my family and I went to the beach and had a rollercoaster full of fun. Then, December of 2018 came around and I saw on the news that there were dead bodies on the beaches. It’s estimated that our reefs produce 1/3 to half our oxygen. So we need to keep this beach safe and clean.
