North Saskatchewan River, AB - Darren Tucker
My Watermark is the North Saskatchewan River, Alberta.
I own River Gold Supplies in Sherwood Park, Alberta. All of this gold that you see in these viles here are from the North Saskatchewan River. You can go anywhere along the river and pretty well find flower gold. They call it flower gold, flood gold, and for the most part, it's been deposited here by glacials a long time a go. Through the natural erosion process on the river through rainfall over time, the gold gets washed out of the riverbanks, gets at the water level and get concentrated. And that's the area where we pick it up.
I can well imagine there being 100 people out on the river on any given weekend. That black sand, that would be hematite and magnetite, and usually the gold is underneath it. So any of these areas where you're finding black sand, quite often, not always, but quite often, you'll find gold. One of the nicest parts about being in this particular hobby, in this part of the country dealing with the North Saskatchewan River, is that you find gold every time you go. It'll keep me coming back again and again, and year after year as well, just like a lot of the other people.
