Exploits River, NL - Eric Brown
My name is Eric Brown and I’m from Summerford. It’s around 28 out on the northeast coast of Newfoundland. My position with McKeil is a deckhand. I’ve been working with McKeil for about 3 years now.
My most powerful memory of water is being with my father out fishing. We were fishing at Exploits, out near Notre Dame. I got lots of stories. But that was most exciting, I was about 8 – 9 years old. I can’t remember farther back than that. Right up to now, last 3 years, I was on fishing boats and long liners, a lot of good stuff. Water has been important in my life because I grew up around it. It just sticks with ya. It’s very important. You can put food, bread and butter on the table as they say, pay the bills. Comes with this company, being on the water and it’s great. I got a lot of memorable stories being with my dad on the boats and all that, just one doesn’t stick out.
I guess my first memory of water was being out on the boat with my dad fishing. Going out for lobsters, and getting the traps with the lobsters and that kind of stuff. Going around to salmon nets stuff and looking at it and asking my dad what it is. All kinds of stories.
