My watermark is the ocean around Mayne Island, where my extended family had a cottage. Me and my ten aunts and uncles and cousins would all cram into the one cottage every summer and spend almost all of our time out on the beach, in the hand-me-down wetsuits that were either too small or too big. It was where I learned to swim and where I learned to paddle a canoe.
