Lake Ontario, ON - Val N

When I was twelve, my friend, Meredith, from Ottawa came over to my house to visit. It was the end of August so it was really warm outside. One night when we were just hanging out, we all decided that we were going to walk down to the Port Hope beach.

When we got there we all took off our shoes and stood in the shallow water of Lake Ontario. The water was so nice and we just stood there for about 10 minutes. After a while, all we wanted to do was go swimming. So, in our clothes we waded into the deeper water. The waves kept crashing up against my legs, and after standing there admiring the turquoise colour of the water for a little while I dunked under the cool water. We had so much fun that we stayed in the water for about two hours.

The sun was just beginning to set and the sky was all purple, pink and blue. In the distance I heard my mom calling out to us to get out because it was getting dark. We asked to stay in just a little longer so she left my big sister watching us and walked back to the house. 20 minutes later she came back with the car and some towels. Finally we agreed to get out and go home. This really showed how important water is to people because it connects us in a fun way.
