Great Bear Lake, NT - Noel Alfonso
My Watermark is Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories.
It’s not far from the Arctic Ocean and yet it’s the largest lake located entirely in Canada. I was lucky enough to have a job as a fishing guide there for 4 seasons. After I finished school, I took some time to paddle from Great Slave Lake to Great Bear Lake; that’s 420 miles! Since then I’ve done some private guiding up there, and because I’m a Fish Biologist, I’ve published a paper on the Lake Trout of Great Bear Lake.
Now that I live in Ottawa I use the Ottawa River very often to fish and to paddle. At some point I would even like to use the river to commute to work.
