Red Hill Creek, ON - Don McLean
My most memorable experience at this waterbody took place in Hamilton where our attempt to protect the city's 2nd largest stream led to the discovery of a leaking dumpsite. My friend (as part of a group) filed a personal charge against the owner of the dump, the city of Hamilton, under the Federal Fisheries Act. It included a bounty clause so she received half the fine imposed on the city, $150,000 out of $300,000 and we used it to establish Hamilton's most active environmental group, Environment Hamilton, as well as an environmental justice fund.
