St. Lawrence River, ON - Patrick Lunn
I grew up in Kingston on Rideau Street in 1957.
Our favourite waterbody was [off] Belle Island. Way back in 1969 they had a day park, a day camp at Bell’s Island and seeing that us guys all lived on Rideau Street in Kingston we’d just walk to Bell’s Island and join in the camp for four or five days a week. On the weekend we still went swimming and everything else. Bell’s Island used to be a really good park but they let it go a little bit to the bad, but they’re fixing it up a little bit again.
We used to swim at Macdonald Park, now they’ve changed it to Breakwater Park, and they had big waves. Or Lake Ontario park's another spot, anywhere there’s big waves, younger kids wanted to go where the big waves were.
I had to come down with everybody. Gord Downie and the Tragically Hip, everybody loves them. You gotta come be happy with the rest of the people in Kingston that really appreciate what he’s done for us. And he’s done a lot.
