Pickle Lake, ON - Rhonda Joyce
My Watermark is Pickle Lake, Ontario.
Back in the mid 90s, I was in my late 20’s and I had a job as an aircraft maintenance engineer. Although I lived in Thunder Bay, my company would fly me up to work 7,12 hour night shifts, then I would have 7 whole days off.
I liked Pickle Lake so much that I didn’t actually get flown home for my days off. I brought my boat up; I had an 18ft bowrider. And there was a forest fire base, with a lot of cute boys on it. So I would spend my seven days off, just water-skiing, hanging out, swimming and playing in the water. It was two or three of the best summers of my life. It was so much fun up there.
One of the coolest things, was the time there was a big forest fire up in Pickle Lake. The sky was all dark with clouds, and you could see flames off in the distance. And the water bombers, big orange and yellow planes, would use Pickle Lake to pick up their water. Watching them just circle around, come down, scoop up the water, and dump it was amazing!! I had some incredible pictures from that day.
