Georgian Bay, ON - Paul Morden
My Watermark is Georgian Bay, Ontario.
My favourite thing to do in Georgian Bay is to go boating with my wife Karen.
Over the years I have noticed changes around the southern end of Georgian bay, around the Midland Penang areas. The water is not as clear as it used to be. You look at Penang harbour as an example, with all the industries that used to be there and apparently it is polluted beyond retrieval.
What I love about Georgian Bay is that you get North a little way, along the Indian Harbour, and the water is clear. You can see 20 feet to the bottom, and that clarity is just fantastic to see. To anchor in it, dive into it, swim and snorkel.
I remember a lot about the storms we encountered on Georgian Bay. One day, we came across from Killarney to the Bustard Islands, and stayed overnight there. We started out the next day towards Britt, Ontario and got hit by a storm halfway across. I have a thirty foot troller and its made to take fairly heavy water, and it blew up. I had to keep cutting into the waves, which were thirteen feet high. We made it to Britt, but had to stay there overnight.
