My Watermark is Florence Beach, Nova Scotia.
I grew up in Sydney Mines, swimming at the back beach there was a sewer pipe pumping out raw sewage, it was an active process to swim away from the sewer stream, and the other side was a lake where a former steel plant or coke oven site was, so it had all Black Coal sand, people would bag it up in Sobey’s bags and throw it on the stone. Sometimes kids would set the sand on fire and it would burn for weeks. Yep, that’s my childhood swimming in Sydney Mines, NS.
