My Watermark is Melmerby Beach at Caribou Harbour, Nova Scotia.

Melmerby beach is located close by to New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. A popular beach destination blessed with warm waters and sandy beaches. When I was a child in the 70’s my friends and I were bussed to the beach in the summer time for our swimming lessons. My fond memories include swimming with the Jelly Fish, diving off the wooden dock which was anchored out in what at the time seemed to be the middle of the Atlantic.

I look back now and marvel at the freedom we had to learn to swim among the waves and, sometimes, stinging tentacles of the Jelly Fish. I can remember doing a dead man’s float, treading water and laughing hilariously with friends. I am sure I learnt more than that but what really resonates with me and the warm feeling retained after all these years is the joy of playing in a great big beautiful and amazing amount of water.
