Morrison Creek provides spawning habitat for pink, chum, coho and occasionally Chinook salmon. The Pacific Lamprey, which is parasitic on marine fish, returns to Morrison Creek to spawn. The Western Brook Lamprey, which spends it's entire life in fresh water also makes its home in Morrison Creek. A unique population of the Western Brook Lamprey, the Morrison Creek Lamprey, occurs nowhere else in the world, it lives only in this small watershed. Cutthroat and rainbow trout inhabit the stream pools and crayfish, freshwater mussels are numerous. Morrison Creek passes through parks and green spaces in the City of Courtenay, providing a vibrant feature along side forested trails. Outside the city it is surrounded by rural properties. It's headwaters, a complex of tributaries and wetlands within an undeveloped mixed second growth forest is home to beaver, otter, mink, muskrat, cougar, deer, raptors, song birds, ducks, herons with elk and wolf passing through. A treasure in our midst!
