Lake Ontario, ON - Ian Gilson
My Watermark is Lake Ontario.
I am a boater and a volunteer coast guard rescuer. We're formally tasked with a 10 by 10-mile portion of Lake Ontario along the Burlington shoreline. We have nine crews, I do about 25-30 rescues every year. It's nice to be able to bring someone back and radio back to tell their family that they're okay. There's satisfaction in it, when you can relieve a family's angst. It's a good feeling.
I have needed to be rescued once, my boat broke down and I had to call in - yes it was somebody I knew - they towed me in and it cost me a bottle of scotch.
